In Ohio, this winter has felt pretty brutal. I’m not so sure if it’s because of the freezing temps we’ve had or the fact that we’e actually had snow this year. Either way, our family has felt a little stir crazy and we needed to have some fun.
Castaway Bay graciously hosted us for a night which meant we got to have a weekend getaway! We did tell the kids we were going somewhere but we didn’t share too many details. After all, how often do we get to surprise them with a getaway? Not often. And I’m pretty sure they were feeling the need for it as much as we were. When we packed up our bags and packed up the car, they knew we were going on a fun adventure!
Castaway Bay is about a 3 hour drive for us. We figured it would be a great starter road trip for the kids. To our surprise, they all did really well in the car!
We stayed in the Tarpon suite; this room was fantastic for our family! It had two separate sleeping areas so we all had plenty of room. The King sized bed was a wonderful perk for us since we don’t even have a King sized bed at home. The other bedroom had two bunk beds and their own tv. The girls both got to sleep on the top bunks and Jackson took a lower bed. It quickly became a “we’ll come back” when we saw that our entire family could comfortably fit in one room. That’s something that’s missing at most hotels. There was enough space in the main bedroom as well for us to fit Lucas’s cosleeper. We set it up as the bassinet since we didn’t want to mess with attaching it to the bed. This room also had a wonderful view on the water. Since it was cold, we only walked out for a minute but it was nice to look out from our sliding-door.
Once we got into the room, we basically dropped our things and jumped into our swimsuits! We were all ready to enjoy some water fun! The kids loved the wave pool most of all but the girls also really loved the water slides. Jackson played in the toddler pool a bit as well. There wasn’t a whole lot of all of us as a family in the water because they required Lucas to also be in a life jacket and the baby just wasn’t having that. I don’t blame him since he’s so small and a life jacket is so bulky but I also don’t blame the indoor waterpark for having strict safety rules.
After some water fun, the “big” kids and Roger went to the restaurant- Quaker Steak and Lube. I had a little bit of a migraine and Lucas was just done with the day. They did bring me back food to the room, but I was a little bummed I missed eating there with them. Obviously, they appeared to have fun but it was just too late for the baby. And no one wants to listen to a screaming baby while trying to enjoy their dinner during a vacation.
The next morning, we headed to the arcade to have some fun with the games. This was a much larger arcade than I was expecting and there were so many different types of games for everyone to enjoy. The whole family loved it.
Overall, we had a fabulous time. Sometimes you really just need a little getaway and spending some time where it was warm, but not too far away, was easy and fun! Taking the time together as a family made us realize that we’d love to do some more “adventures” together this year. While we are the family that makes time together everyday, going somewhere like Castaway Bay really gives you some fun quality time.
